Week 8 Update

Governor WA Visit

Today we had the pleasure of hosting His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of Western Australia and his wife, Mrs Darrilyn Dawson at our school assembly. The Governor and Mrs Dawson have invited two of our students, Logan and Emmanuela to join the Governors Future Sparks Program and today they visited the school to present the students with their badges. The program is aimed at giving students an opportunity to participate in activities that they wouldn’t normally receive the opportunity to. Both Emmanuela and Logan are very fortunate to be involved in the program and we look forward to hearing about the activities they participated in. We would also like to thank the Governor and Mrs Dawson for their kind donation of a native Gungurru tree, which we will plant at the front of the school in recognition of our schools involvement in the program. After the assembly today, both students attended Government House, to participate in the Kings Birthday Honours Investiture ceremony, very much looking forward to hearing about the event.

Faction Carnival

Congratulations to Ruby who were victorious at this year’s Faction Athletics Carnival. Throughout the day we witnessed some outstanding individual and team performances. Thankfully the rain stayed away, with the downpour only beginning after the final event. Congratulations to all of the individual champions and runners up, please see the full list of winners below. Although there was number of helpers on the day (special mention to Darren our gardener, for marking out the oval so well), our Faction Carnival is such a huge success due to the efforts of our hard-working PE teacher, Mrs Farmer. Thank you, Mrs Farmer, for all of your efforts, the day was certainly a huge success!

P&C Food stall

Big thank you to our amazing P&C Committee and all of their helpers for their very successful efforts running our Food stall at the athletics carnival. With all of their hard work, the P&C raised over $1400, very impressive effort. If you happened to attend our assembly today, you would have seen our brand-new stage that was donated to the school from the P&C (lots of fundraising efforts!, not just the carnival FOOD STALL), the stage looks amazing and certainly added pizazz to our assembly, thank you P&C for your generosity!

Interschool Athletics Carnival

Individual students will now be invited to participate in our upcoming Interschool Athletics Carnival. On the day students will be competing against students from Westminster PS, Koondoola PS and Roseworth PS. The jumps, throws and long-distance events will take place here at Dianella PC on Tuesday 12 September, with events getting underway from 9.30am. The main carnival will take place at Des Penman Reserve, Nollamara on Friday 15 September, with the junior events in the morning and intermediate, senior events in the afternoon. The full list of competitors is on our sports notice board outside Room 4. If your child has been selected for the interschool team, they will bring a note home with full details. Good luck to all competitors!

Room 14 Assembly

Today the Year 3 students from Room 14 entertained us with their knowledge of local bushranger, Moondye Joe. The students did a great job giving a rundown of his life and performed a beautiful song, very well-choregraphed by Sadia. Great work Mrs Harper and Room 14. Well done to all of our Honour Certificate winners who were recognised at the assembly for their ongoing display of our school values. See the full list of students below.

Well-Being Week - Harmony Assembly

On Friday 8 September as a precinct, we will be celebrating our ongoing Harmony between our 3 schools, Dianella Secondary College, Dianella Secondary College Education Support Centre and Dianella Primary. Students will attend a precinct assembly, with performances from our school choir and students from the Education Support Centre. Dr Anne Ally, federal member for Cowan, will be the keynote speaker, and students will also enjoy an African drumming performance. On the day, students are encouraged to wear either orange to show harmony, or they may dress in national costume or dress.
