Week 1 Update

Welcome back to all of our families for Term 3. I hope that everyone has had a relaxing and restful holiday break and is ready for the next term. I would also like to welcome all of our new families who have joined the Dianella PC community this term. At this stage we have welcomed 10 new students to the school and I know that all of our students have certainly made their new classmates feel welcome. It is a very busy term (as usual) and we have lots of activities to look forward to.

Government House

DPC has been very fortunate to be included in the Governers Developing Young Leaders Program and as a result we were able to nominate two students to be involved in the program. The young leader’s program is an opportunity for students to be involved in leadership activities and presentations that are held at Government House, that they wouldn’t normally have access to. The Governor, Mr Chris Dawson and his wife, Mrs Dawson have welcomed Year 6 students, Emanuelle and Logan into the program and along with their parents we attended a morning tea and tour of Government house. Throughout the remainder of the year both of these students will receive ongoing mentoring and access to a variety of opportunities. This is a fantastic opportunity for both students, and they are very fortunate to be involved. Congratulations Emmanuela and Logan for being nominated and accepted into the program.

NAIDOC Celebrations

Next Friday 28 July we will be holding our precinct NAIDOC Celebration assembly. The assembly will be a joint celebration with Dianella Secondary College and Dianella Secondary College Education support Centre. Our school choir will be performing along with students from DSC. Parents and community members are welcome to join us for a 9am start in the DSC gymnasium.

NAPLAN Reports

Today the year 3 & 5 students (who sat the tests) have taken home their NAPLAN Reports and parent information flyers. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has changed the timing, rating scale and standards. This means that we cannot compare 2023 results to previous years. The new standards are: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs Additional Support. Please take the time to look through the test results with your child. For further information go to the ACARA WEBSITE: www.nap.edu.au/NAPLAN.

Staffing

As mentioned last Term, Mr Fonseca has taken a position at Statewide Services for the remainder of the year. I would like to inform the school community that in his absence, Miss Vince will be stepping into the Deputy Principal role for the remainder of the year. This is a great opportunity for Miss Vince to develop her leadership skills and I look forward to working with her. Mr Bobadilla will stepping into the teaching role in Room 15 for the remainder of the year and we welcome Mr B to the DPC school community.

Faction Carnival

Our faction athletics carnival will take place on Friday 1 September. The students have been busy practicing the team games and individual events and our sports carnival day is always one of the highlights of the school calendar.

Book Week Parade

Our annual book week celebration will take place on Friday 25 August. This is a a great opportunity for students (and staff) to show their creative side and dress as their favourite book character.

School Development Day

Reminder to all parents that our school development day will take place on Friday 18 August, students do not attend school on this day.
