Week 5 Update

Assembly

Although I was unable to attend, I have been informed that our Pre-Primary 2 class did an amazing job conducting our week 4 assembly. The students did an outstanding job innovating the story Owl Babies into a Koala Baby story and presenting the 6 Noongar Seasons in a song. Congratulations to all of our Honour Certificate winners who were recognised for their ongoing display of our school values at the assembly, please see the full list of students below. Well done PP2, I’m sorry I missed the assembly!

Aussie of the Month

Congratulations to Ben who was nominated as our Aussie of the Month for August. Ben was nominated by Mrs Ryan for his efforts in science, where Ben always shows great responsibility and leadership in support of his peers in science. Well done Ben!

Book Week Sale

Next week on Wednesday and Thursday, we have the Book Week Sale happening in the library. Classes will be invited to the library to have a preview and to do a wish list on Monday 21 August and Tuesday 22 August. Book fair sale is on Wednesday, 23 August and Thursday, 24 August.  Parents are welcome to attend the book fair sale with their child before or after class on either of those days. Book Week Parade

Have you got your costume ready? Next Friday 25 August is our annual Book Week Dress up parade. This is an opportunity for students (and staff) to dress as their favourite book character. This is always a fantastic event and an activity that students love being involved in. As a school we will hold a dress up parade from 9am in the undercover area with some great prizes on offer for our best dressed students!

Canteen Orders

As of next term, all canteen orders will be going online. The canteen service provided to Dianella Primary is through an external provider that runs the canteen at the secondary college. Due to the number of orders being received and the issues with money and change this is a decision that has been made by the providers. All parents and students that utilise the canteen will need to create a Quickcliq account. This is a simple process and will make ordering much easier for all. Please follow the link below to create your own account.

Welcome QuickCliq

National Day of Action Against Bullying

Tomorrow, Friday 18 August is National Day of Action Against Bullying. Whilst I would like to say we don’t experience Bullying at school, this is not always the case and students are now being exposed to more forms of bullying online. As a school it is important that we address bullying and take students concerns seriously. Students in our upper primary classes participated in an online webinar today about what to do if they are being bullied online (or at school) and how to seek support. Parents and carers also play a key role in identifying, preventing and responding to bullying. It is important that families have these conversations with their children about what bullying is and what to do if they are being bullied. The Bullying No Way website has a range of support materials for families and also activities for students to support in this issue. Please follow the link below for more information.

Gabrielle Evans Visit

As part of our Book Week celebrations, this week the junior students had a visit from children’s book illustrator and author, Gabrielle Evans. Gabrielle spoke to the students about his love of books and how through dedication, hard work and persistence he finally achieved his dream of becoming an illustrator and author. Under his guidance, all students then had their own chance to work on their illustration skills. Thanks Mrs Whisson for organising, it was a very enjoyable incursion!

Year 6 Camp

Last week our Yr 6 students were lucky enough to head off to Swan Valley Adventure Campo for 3 days of actioned packed school camp. Students participated in a range of activities that tested their team work, stretched their confidence levels and put a smile on their faces. The students had an amazing time and the Yr 6 teachers were very pleased with the students efforts throughout the camp. Although their was a few tired students (and staff) on their return, everyone had an amazing time. Big thank you to Mrs Chis, Ms Oliver and Ms Coppins for organising and giving up their own family time to take students on the camp.

Faction Carnival

Reminder to all families, our school Faction Carnival is fast approaching. Students will participate in jumps, throws and long distance running on Wednesday 30 August from 9.30am (full list of competitors is displayed on our PE notice board outside Room 4) and the main carnival taking place on Friday 1 September from 9am. The carnival is always a fantastic day and we would love to see as many parents and families joining us on the day.
